One Minus One

One Minus One

  • Pencil - crayon - charcoal - inkcap mushroom ink (homemade) + Japanese ink on recycled paper.
  • Framed at 75cm x 110cm in a black solid wood custom made frame.
  • Sigmundsried Schloss - Strings. Exhibition - Express Yourself - 2021

The One series is based on the ensō circle. 'In Zen, an ensō is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create.'  My interpretation here is one or many ensō circles linked together in harmony, or as in the artwork 'One minus One' harmony in chaos.

Nature's harmonious way of growth in symbiosis - supporting each other for a more enriched life. Such is the way of fungi, many plants and trees. I hope we can continue to learn from nature. Interconnectivity, as seen here in the One series of artworks, is a recurring theme of my artworks.

This painting has been sold for charity - all proceeds going to The Frizzey Light Nepalese charity.

At my first exhibition 'Strings' in Schloss Sigmundsried I created an Express Yourself Room, with the idea that the painting created in this communtiy of people that visit the exhibition will make it for a Nepalese community. Frizzey Light Organisation builds schools, and provides warm clothes, blankets and necessary items for the colder months.

This painting I created at Schloss Sigmundreid on a rainy summer afternoon. The larger communal painting will also be available soon on Frizzey Lights' website.
